elevators built for new zealand architecture

we build lifts the way New Zealand needs them

Powerglide was founded on a simple idea: New Zealanders deserve elevators designed for New Zealand buildings - not imported systems adapted to them.

Our team brings together design, engineering, manufacturing, installation, and long‑term support under one roof, creating a level of clarity and accountability that offshore suppliers can’t match.

We build lifts that feel considered in every detail and genuinely belong in the spaces New Zealanders create.

Being NZ‑made gives us control over every part of the process - design, engineering, manufacturing, installation, and long‑term support.

That control is what delivers the real advantages: shorter lead times, clearer communication, and one team responsible for every detail of your lift.

Because we build locally, we’re able to refine constantly. Our lean manufacturing approach means we improve, iterate, and innovate in real time - rather than having to accept what an offshore manufacturer happens to have available. When something can be made better, we make it better.

No offshore delays. No fragmented responsibility.

Just a lift built with local precision, local care, and a level of responsiveness only a New Zealand manufacturer can provide.

Guidance at every stage — from first sketch to long‑term support

  • Early design advice

We help you plan your lift from the beginning, offering layout guidance, space planning, and technical considerations tailored to your project.

  • Technical drawings & documentation

Your builder gets precise, project‑ready documentation: dimensions, requirements, structural notes, and everything needed to integrate the lift smoothly into the build.

  • Installation by the team who built your lift

Our installers work directly with our engineers, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and a seamless fit within your architecture.

  • Long‑term servicing & support

Once your lift is installed, we continue to look after it. Servicing is handled by the same New Zealand team who designed and built your lift - people who know the system inside and out.

Our history: a story of kiwi ingenuity

In 2003, founder Ian Fullerton went looking for an NZ‑made elevator for his home and couldn’t find anything with the right quality at a realistic price.

In true Kiwi fashion, he and his son Allan - both engineers - quietly set about designing their own. Before long, a friend asked for one. Then another, and another.

Ian, along with Allan and his wife Fiona, officially launched Powerglide Elevators in 2005.

What started as a smart local solution has grown into a nationwide operation and a national leader.

Where it all started… Allan and Ian outside the original Powerglide workshop back in 2005. Both are still actively involved in the day-to-day operation of the business.
